SportZone : Manchester Mega Mela
On Saturday 25th July, Sporting Equals was at the Manchester Mela celebrations helping people try new or familiar sport through our SportZone activities.
Sporting Equals has on offer Boxing sessions with the help of the hugely popular mobile boxing ring. Young participants from the White Irish Travelling community were enthusiastic to pull on the gloves and learnt a few tips from the coach.
Local people had the chance to have a small kickabout of football, try their hand at tennis and table tennis.
A young man from the Somali communityshowed brilliant technique and passion for tennis but wanted to have a go at almost all sports available from Boxing, Tennis, Table Tennis and Cricket.
Manchester Mega Mela is the largest celebration of South Asian Culture in the North of England. Music, dance, food and traditional arts and crafts bring the sights, sounds and spicy aromas of South Asia to Platt Fields Park each year. The Mela is a two day fun-filled event which takes place in the summer.
If you couldn't make it, please follow us on twitter @SportingEquals to see all the action from where our SportZone will go next:
Birmingham Mela : 16th August : Cannon Hill Park
Nottingham Caribbean Carnival : 22nd August : City Centre
London Mela : 6th Sept : Gunnersbury Park
