British Cycling now seek a new Training Science Lead

Why the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT)? GBCT has been one of Great Britain's most successful Olympic and Paralympic teams for the last two decades. GBCT's purpose is to 'inspire Great Britain into a great cycling nation through being the World's greatest sports team'. The team is made up of approximately 140 riders competing across multiple cycling disciplines including Track (Olympic and Paralympic), Road (Olympic and Paralympic), Mountain Bike (Olympic), BMX Supercross (Olympic) and BMX Freestyle Park (Olympic). The team is supported by approximately 80 members of staff who provide cutting edge, specialist support in their respective areas.  

The role of a Training Science Lead is to:

Performance support in the Great Britain Cycling Team is delivered through six key performance themes:

  1. Equipment and Apparel
  2. Position Optimisation
  3. Data and Insight
  4. Physical Preparation
  5. Personal Performance
  6. Rider Health

The Training Science Lead is an exciting new role within GBCT. It will play a pivotal role in the Physical Preparation theme of performance support with the overarching objective <u>to support advances in cycling performance through an evidence-based, scientific approach to athlete development.</u>

In support of this objective, this role will work closely with Coaches and Performance Strategists to support the formation of modern and cutting-edge training practises throughout the programme (with a particular focus on endurance event) that aim to deliver the requirements defined by WiTTW.

This role will directly manage Lead Physiology and Lead S&C roles to ensure that support is fully aligned to the meet the objectives of the training plan.

What you need is:

  • At least 5 years of experience working in elite level sport delivering training science related support services.
  • Experience of working with teams and/or individuals preparing for major competition.
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams successfully towards an outcome.
  • Experience in the delivery of coach education / development programmes.
  • Experience of working withing the sport of cycling would be beneficial.
  • We would expect suitable candidates to possess a PhD in a training science related area.
