Leaderboard Academy (Second Phase)
As you may be aware, there are only 4% Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) board members, out of a UK population of 14%. Sporting Equals and the University of Leicester have designed the LeaderBoard Academy to equip BAME professionals and former athletes with the skills they need to influence and promote equality and diversity (particularly race equality) in the boardrooms of sport organisations.
The LeaderBoard Academy is focused on getting talented people onto boards i.e. people who have empathy and an understanding of race equality issues, and the ability to communicate and share that at board level. Our first part of our annual LeaderBoard Academy was held in November with the second part bringing the Academy to a close on 18 January 2019.
The Academy's aim is to create a pool of talent that is 'board ready' and prepared to step into positions across sport (both in paid and voluntary roles). Following completion of the Academy module days, Sporting Equals will help support the 'graduates' through mentoring, shadowing, and network opportunities as well as match Academy 'graduates' to governance roles within sport.
