The largest and longest-standing multiracial Sports Club celebrate 100 years.
Indian Gymkhana is a combined Cricket, Football and Hockey Club which was established in 1916. The IGC Ltd is open to members of all races and religions. Nor is its membership restricted to people of Indian origin. When the Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1966, the message was that it aimed to become a multi-racial centre where old and young alike could meet to play sports and foster goodwill between people across generations. That is even truer today.
Indian Gymkhana are celebrating its centenary with a programme of events throughout May. There is a series of sporting fixtures across its three sports from youth section up to veterans, culminating in a gala meal.
Sporting Equals have supported the club create its first girls section within its football programme. Pictured below is the girls section including Mark Healy (Sporting Equals – London Officer) and Monica Sharma (Fulham Ladies FC), at the girl's first seasons awards evening.
Parminder Gill, Indian Gymkhana's Girls Section Manager said “it was a fantastic day with 100 kids turning up to celebrate the clubs centenary year. It was fitting that the clubs first ever female football team was created this year, a big thanks to Sporting Equals and Mark Healy for their continuing support and advice".
