Sport for Life! International (SFLI) completed their fourth summer camp at Waverley School
Community sports coaching organisation Sport for Life! International (SFLI) completed their fourth summer camp at Waverley School for more than 60 students progressing from primary to secondary school in August this year.
SFLI's daily sports programmes have focused on teaching the basics of football and cricket as well as healthy lifestyle training. To support its beliefs that sport improves young people's lives, Sport for Life! International's team of coaches was delighted to welcome Ateeq Javid from Warwickshire County Cricket Club to the camp. Ateeq took a fielding class and chatted for more than an hour to students about his personal path to becoming a first class cricketer from his beginnings in Birmingham.
Another first this year and via a partnership with Sporting Equals and the Tennis Foundation, SFLI introduced tennis coaching into the summer camp schedule and was delighted with the uptake from students. Operations Director Mohammed Naeem said:
“We have been delighted to work with Daniel at Sporting Equals for the past year to train Sport for Life! coaches to deliver tennis such as here at Waverley and to activate financial support via Sport Birmingham to coach students at more schools in Birmingham. We urge schools to participate in our annual in school coaching programme Sport for Life! in Schools and thanks to all our partners for making this happen for young people in Birmingham”.
