Ramadan and Sport
The month of ramadan will be starting next week when muslims will be fasting for 30 days.
Distance runner Mo Farah on fasting "It is important that I eat well and stay hydrated. I fast as soon as I have finished my season."
Cricketer Moeen Ali on fasting "If I was in an office I would find it harder because I would be used to snacking. But playing cricket keeps me busy."
Sporting Equals have produced a resource to help sports providers understand a bit more about fasting and how they can adjust sport and physical activity to support local communities.
To access the resource register for our intranet here
Opportunities also exist in regions for local engagement as many mosques will be hosting 'iftars', which is when people break the fast and get together to have a meal and reflect.
Iftars are a good way of engaging with local communities and access people to talk about local offers and how to engage them in sport.
Please contact Sporting Equals for further information.
