Make Sport Everyone's Game
SPORT UNITES US. WE CHEER TOGETHER. WE CRY TOGETHER.
It doesn't matter who you are, sport should be everyone's game.
Sadly, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia remain a problem at all levels of sport. Our new research finds that:
• 72% of football fans have heard anti-LGBT remarks at games over the last five years
• One in five 18 to 24-year-olds say they'd be embarrassed if their favourite player came out
• Young people are twice as likely to say anti-LGBT language is harmless if it's just meant as 'banter'
From a young age, many lesbian, gay, bi and trans people get the message that they are not welcome in sport.
But most sport fans and players do welcome and accept lesbian, gay, bi and trans teammates and fans. We can't let a small but vocal minority spoil the game for everyone else.
