Levels of Activity Across Ethnic Groups
Active Lives Data profiles on levels of activity suggest that Mixed Groups are the most active (69.5%) (at least 150 minutes a week) and South Asian Groups (53.1%) are the least likely to do at least 150 minutes a week.
Broken down by gender and ethnicity South Asian and Black Females are the least likely to do 150 minutes a week (47.9% & 51% respectively) along with South Asian males and Other (57.3% & 55.8% respectively) compared to other ethnic groups.
The most inactive groups (have done no activity in the last 28 days) are the Black and those of Other ethnic origin (69.3% and 64.8%) respectively followed closely by the South Asian groups (61.1%).
Broken down by gender and ethnicity the most inactive groups (have done no activity in the last 28 days) are Black Males (69.6%), Black females (69.1%) and Other females (67.3%), and South Asian males (63.4%).
The proportion of women who are active varies hugely between different ethnic groups. The gender gap is widest between men and women who are black or South Asian.
Levels of Activity Across Religious groups
Broken down by religion people who are the most likely to do 150 minutes a week are those of No Religion (70.20%), Other (63.3%) and Christian groups (61.4%) those less likely to do 150 minutes a week those of the Sikh faith (42.9%) and Muslim groups (48.6%).
Broken down by religious group and gender the most inactive (have done no activity in the last 28 days) are Hindu Males (70.8%) and Other and Muslim Females (75.6% & 68.2%) respectively.
Levels of Activity Across Sports
Team Sports are most popular with Mixed (12.5%) and South Asian (12.0%) groups and are more popular with males compared to females. Mixed males and South Asian males are the most likely to take part in team sports (20.6% % 18.7%) respectively.
Racket sports seem to be the most popular with the Chinese groups (10.7%) and also the South Asian groups (7.7%) compared to other ethnic groups. Chinese Males and Chinese Females have the highest participation in racket sports (11.5% & 9.5%) respectively. Racket Sports are also relatively popular with South Asian Males and Females (10.10% & 4.7%) respectively.
Activity Levels Across Regions
South Asian and Black groups are the most active (150 minutes a week) in the South West and East, Chinese groups in the South east and Mixed groups in the North East. South Asian groups are most inactive (less than 30 minutes) in the North West and South East regions, the Black groups are most inactive in the West Midlands region, Chinese groups in the North West and Mixed groups in the East region.
