Our Organisation

The Football Association (The FA) is the governing body of football in England. We are responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels; from grassroots through to the professional game, The Emirates FA Cup and the England international teams. We have two core assets: Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park.

The Role

The Football Association's and Government partners of the UK and Ireland are undertaking feasibility work for a five-association bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This work will run through until July 2022 by when it is anticipated FIFA will have formally opened the bidding process.  An exciting opportunity has arisen to be an integral part of the team coordinating this work. Based out of Wembley, you will work with all partners to assess the feasibility of bidding to stage a FIFA World Cup which could provide an incredible opportunity to deliver tangible benefits in the UK & Ireland.

This role will support the Technical Lead to work with cities and stadia across the UK & Ireland to develop a portfolio of FIFA compliant venues for inclusion in a potential bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The role supports a number of work areas, including:

  • Procurement and ongoing Contract Management
  • English City and Stadia Selection
  • Stakeholder Management

This is a Fixed Term contract, starting in December 2021 and ending in July 2022.

Key Accountabilities

Procurement and ongoing Contract Management

  • Support the procurement exercises and subsequent contract management for a range of technical services including architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and sustainability.

English City and Stadia Selection

  • Develop systems and processes to support an open, fair and transparent initial selection process for English stadia
  • Ensure alignment and consistency with agreed systems and processes at all times
  • Develop workshops and roadshows which provide engagement opportunities with potential host city and stadia across the UK & Ireland
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure all necessary information is available for communication with cities and stadia e.g. benefit analysis, scoring criteria, pre-qualification questionnaire, host city agreement
  • Collate key reports which monitor the progress of this work area and which feed into the overall programme management of the bid feasibility

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for cities and stadia engaged in the process providing guidance and ongoing relationship management throughout the initial selection process
  • Provide a key interface with UK Sport, UK Government, Government of Ireland, other bid feasibility partners and suppliers


  • Support the scoping of safety and security requirements for the tournament, coordinating city and stadia engagement where required
  • Support the development of a sustainability concept in line with the ambitions of key stakeholders and the anticipated FIFA criteria

  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Experience in Smartsheet® beneficial but not essential
