Grade: Level 3 (All Sciences)
Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties. This will involve a minimum of 22.5 hours per week (i.e. 3 days per week) and may include working outside normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays.
Location: The normal place of work is Bisham Abbey, however the EIS may from time to time require you to travel to and work at other offices and attend camps and competitions.
This role will provide the delivery and development of Performance Lifestyle support to Great Britain Hockey's world class programme athletes (either the men's or women's squad) complimenting the objectives of the sport and working as part of a multi-disciplinary performance support team.
As a senior member of the Performance Lifestyle team at the EIS you will contribute to knowledge development, aggregation and sharing across the organisation to support the development of world class Performance Lifestyle services and practice.
All Performance Lifestyle practitioners, as with any other EIS practitioners, are expected to work within the HCSI Professional Code of practice to ensure the highest standards of practice are met at all times. In addition, Performance Lifestyle has internal professional standards known as SAFE2PRACTICE and every member of the team is expected and supported to uphold our responsibilities for the benefit of the athletes and sports we serve, our professional community, our organisation and GB high performance system.
MAIN TASKS AND ACTIVITIES
As a Senior Performance Lifestyle Advisor for Great Britain Hockey, you will work with a Performance Lifestyle colleague, the Performance Lifestyle Technical Lead and the relevant Head of Performance Support to set objectives and strategy, aimed at developing and delivering the best tailored Performance Lifestyle support possible.
Performance Lifestyle works with a person first approach, to provide an individual service to funded World Class Programme (WCP) athletes that centres upon:
- Proactively engaging athletes in future life planning and career development, with the emphasis on early intervention and continued personal and professional development throughout their time on the WCP
- Providing support around finding and managing the optimal personal lifestyle balance for multiple demands e.g. from education, employment, family, finances etc. to protect and enhance performance potential and personal well-being.
- Proactively working to develop athletes' portfolio of personal, professional and life skills through workshops, opportunities and 1 to 1 coaching.
- Promoting the importance and impact of athletes creating and developing broader identities and interests beyond their sport, enabling effective life balance that supports performance and fosters positive mental health
- Supporting athletes from a lifestyle perspective as they transition on to, through and beyond the world class programme
- Providing proactive transition support for athletes leaving the world class programme for a minimum of 6 months after funding cessation. Extending exit transition support if required*
- Providing a safe, impartial and, where appropriate, confidential space to support athletes – sign posting and referring onwards as necessary to safeguard the welfare, mental health and well-being of the athlete.
- Working in partnership with athletes and high performance stakeholders to champion, develop and support sustainable cultures that deliver performance and responsibly care for people.
